How to Compare AI Assistants for Your Team
By Karthick Selvam · Published
Several general-purpose AI assistants compete for enterprise use. Rather than chasing rankings, evaluate them against your own needs.
Why rankings mislead
Model capabilities change every few months, and public benchmarks may not reflect your tasks. A tool that wins a benchmark may not be best for your documents or language mix.
Criteria that matter
Quality on your real tasks, data privacy and retention terms, admin controls, integration with your existing tools, context length for long documents, and cost per user.
Run a structured pilot
Pick 10 to 20 representative tasks, test each assistant with the same prompts, and have the people who do the work score the results.
Train regardless of choice
Prompting, verification and data-handling skills transfer across assistants, so training is useful whichever tool you pick.
Frequently asked questions
Should we standardise on one assistant?
Many organisations do for governance reasons, but some allow a small approved set.
