Agentic AI Interview Questions and Answers
By Karthick Selvam · Published
Common interview questions for roles involving AI agents, with concise answers.
What is an AI agent?
A system where a language model decides which actions or tools to use in a loop to achieve a goal, observing results along the way.
How do you prevent infinite loops?
Set maximum steps, timeouts and clear termination conditions, and detect repeated actions.
What is tool calling?
The model outputs a structured request to call a defined function with arguments; the application executes it and returns the result to the model.
How do you evaluate an agent?
Use scenario-based test suites, measure task success, step count, cost and errors, and review traces.
What is prompt injection?
Malicious instructions hidden in inputs or retrieved content that try to change the agent's behaviour. Mitigate with least privilege, input handling and approval steps.
When would you use a multi-agent design?
When a task splits naturally into specialised roles; otherwise a single agent is simpler to debug.
